Cooperstown NY, December 14th 2006: A rural village, settled in the late 18th century by William Cooper, but made famous by the novels of his son James Fenimore Cooper.  Myth has it that Abner Doubleday invented the game of baseball here.  Doubleday is not only famous for this myth, but also for the fact that he was the first Union soldier to return fire in the American Civil War.  Cooperstown is now Home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.  In addition to the Hall of Fame, Cooperstown is home to the Fenimore House Art Museum and the Farmer's Museum.  For more information, see the related Links page
